All published papers, including the abstracts, must be cited individually, in-text, and at the end of the manuscript. The number of references cited is limited to 5 references per manuscript. Manuscripts without references are not eligible for publication. All authors must agree that their manuscript has not been published in any other journal, and only one version is permitted. To ensure that the work is not under consideration for publication in another journal, the Editor must be notified of all manuscript submissions and publication status changes. Any exceptions to this requirement should be limited to filings submitted as conditionals or that contain sensitive information that would be compromised if disclosed. Manuscripts submitted for publication may be sent in camera review if warranted by the Editor.
A final draft of a manuscript will be processed and sent to the journals involved in the publication process. Authors are encouraged to check the status of their manuscript at several stages to ensure that a manuscript is ready to be submitted for review, and that it meets the journals specific content and length requirements. The manuscript will often be rejected prior to publication, and it is in the authors best interest to ensure that every submission is complete.
Authors are also free to deposit unpublished manuscripts in order to speed up the review process. If you choose to submit an un-reviewed version of a paper to PMC, please be sure to use the NCBI GigaScience Submission Gateway system.
Select the appropriate study type(s) from this list and follow the instructions to submit your manuscript. In order for your submission to be accepted, your manuscript must be in English and adhere to the content guidelines for research articles. The specific journal requirements vary depending on the journal, and this section includes a list of instructions that are specific to that particular journal. To ensure your submission is reviewed by the correct journal specialists, we suggest asking a representative from a paper's submitting institution (e.g. hiring manager, PI, research dean, grant committee, etc) to select the correct journal. The primary contact for each of the journals highlighted in this listing can be found here:
